Curious Cat Question

(And yes, I'm not shouting my posts anymore.)

Was trying to get my health card working yesterday at the hospital when I overhead this tired-looking lady telling the girl behind the front desk her personal info.

Since the tired-looking lady didn't have her medical card, she said in a voice that rang quite loud throughout the small room that she worked for GMA-7 and that her birthdate was *mumble-mumble*, 1975.

I was somewhat surprised when I heard this since I thought the lady looked older than meself. (I was born in 1974 if you wanna know.) But then again, despite my age, I've always thought myself in younger terms.

So my question is: what age do you consider yourself in?

The Dark Ages. hehe.

I'm with Aaliyah -- Age ain't nothing but a number. I'm older than you by 2 years but I have the mental age of 18. ;)

Approximately 5 years younger than my actual age. There was a time though that I was 21 forever. ;)

mark: Hey man! What happened to your blog? I keep getting a blank. As for age being a number, well, it's a number that keeps getting heavier each year. Especially with the body parts needing replacing. *gulp*

dean: Five years younger, eh? So that would be... ;-)

Meself, I keep thinking I'm 23. Dunno why.

I dunno - I definitely feel my age - 30-ish - in many ways. Not tired and aging, but less *urgent* and depserate about my identity and self-worth, and also more inclined to assess decisions (apart from books acquisitions) for their long-term consequences.

Apart from that, no, my attitudes and beliefs (or rather, lack of beliefs) haven't changed and I don't see them changing n the forseeable future, unless soid evidence to the contrary comes up.

So I suppose I feel fundamentaly no diffeerent than when I was 11, or 21 - except that I'm a lot calmer now.

I also feel a lot calmer than I used to be. I've always felt "old"; when I was a kid, people always said that about me. So, I dunno, 60 or something? ;-) Nah, seriously, I guess I think of myself as my current physical age, 31, and I'm grateful for it. :-)

markmomukhamo: you were born yesterday? hehe.

fuhrer: Heh I can barely remember my 16th year. Must have been either too shocking... or too boring.

jp: Desperate? Why so? I was pretty open-minded when I was younger but now that I'm older, I'm starting to get a bit grumpy about people's stupidity. I'm afraid I'm turning into an old codger before 40.

mahesh: Why, but you don't look a day older than 28! Seriously, I was also the 'serious' one when I was older. Nowadays, people think I'm crazy, I don't know why.

stg: Grrr! Heh, my cup of jealous envy runneth over! ;-) Still, my grade school uniform was unimpressive so I don't miss it.

skinny: Heh mark meet skinny, skinny meet mark. :-D

I didn't realize you were older than I was, even by just a few months (I was born November 1975).

Anyway, it certainly sounds like that lady needs a new job, one that's less stressful!

As for your question, I feel my age in an "Oh my God, I'm 31" kind of way. At the same time, I also feel like I still have too much s**t to deal with for someone who's ALREADY 31. Does that make sense?

I hope it makes better sense than...this. (And yes, that's off-topic.)

banzai cat said...

A few months? Man, that's one whole year! (I was born in 1974.)

And is the sh*t you're dealing with because of your teaching job or is that life in general?

(And speaking of off-topic, that thing sucks big time. WTF? Where did the car come from?)

skinnyblackcladdink said...

the car indicates that the movie will probably owe more to the Heston movie (The Omega Man) than the book...an 'Hollywood coolified' extension of the opening sequence, Heston driving through New York...although i do believe dude had a car in the book as well?

reminds me of the early Constantine movie concept art, which included concepts for 'John Constantine's car'--a 'Hellblazermobile' of sorts. think this was back when Nic Cage was still tied to the project.

Not that I can remember. If ever Neville did have a car, it was a normal one. I haven't seen either of the movie versions of the book but a comment in andrew's LJ mentioned that maybe Will Smith has a fast car because the monsters are the 'fast' type, ala-remake of Dawn of the Dead. Sounds plausible but I can see the bloody clawmarks on the shiny exterior of the car already...

On the other hand... a Hellblazermobile? Jesus wept...

While I've had moments of career burnout, it's really more of a "life in general" kind of thing that bugs me at times about being 31.

I just find the teaser poster for I am Legend to be so odd. Shouldn't they at least have an indication that there are monsters in it? Monsters do sell after all...I guess just not as much as cars.

And did someone say Hellblazermobile?

skinnyblackcladdink said...

eld: ha, yeah, that's the one.

honestly, while i love the books, i *am* a tad curious how *that* movie woulda turned out.

Oddly, this was something we were recently discussing at work. Apparently people find it hard to guess my age, and interestingly, it's for the same reasons I often have age crises. Most people guessed about 6-7 years younger. Conflict occurs because half the time, I'm very articulate and 'together'; the rest of the time I'm sooo very silly. Yeah, I'm 36 but some days it's hard to tell. (And most 36 year olds don't drive to work with techno blaring out their car windows!) ;)

banzai cat said...

eldritch: Hehe don't tell me you're having a midlife crisis at 30? (Though there was a time when I thought I had something like than when I was 25!)

Oh yeah, I remember that Hellblazermobile. Despite the cheesiness of the movie, thank goodness they junked that idea.

skinny: I dunno... I have a certain rabid fanboy feeling over Matheson's work. That and not having viewed the movies yet.

livewire: Trust me, you definitely don't sound like you're 36! ;-)

banzai cat said...

But luke, you don't look that old?!?

Though seriously (to you, livewire, and stg), I never meant to ask the age of a lady.

:-D
