Newsfeed in the Brain

I guess I belong to the 1 out of 4 Filipinos who're interested in the US presidential elections. And that's even though I can't even vote in that election.

I can't help it: though I may have gotten burned out after 8 years reporting local news, I'm fascinated by what's happening in the US. That and they have way better candidates than we've had in the past elections. (Unless they field Chiz Escudero vs. Michael Defensor or some young guns in 2010.)

It's right up there in my head with the global financial crisis a close second.

What's third? The upcoming Dela Hoya-Pacquiao Dream Match. Talk about boxing fans' wet dream.

So what's the news on your mind?

Update: Oh wow. The US has just voted their first black president.

Double Update: See, I told you following the economic collapse news was a good idea. (Link taken from Jessica Zafra.)

Triple Update: Howie Severino points out the racism of Filipino-Americans. It's fascinating reading. (Link from Gibbs Cadiz.)

The news very much on my mind these days is whether Dingdong Dantes and Karylle have really broken up. Sayang the years of togetherness.
Seriosuly, I just read from Manuel Quezon's blog this letter from the BPI president about the financial crisis and it's relation to the country. About how pessimistic and optimistic it sounded at the same time. Like our banks are strong but we could still get hit. Or the brunt may be felt in 2009 but we have always weathered storms.
On the elections, Obama already looks like a president when he casted his vote.

Haha nice one. Yeah MQ's blog is a good source of local news, ditto with his comments. Though I wish he'd update more. (But that's just me and my newsfeed junkie habits.)

absolutely the pacquiao-dela hoya match!!!!!! i am very pinoy, so popular boxing runs strong and true in my veins now :) what do you think of the match-up? are you with many other analysts who say this is going to be a very lopsided bout? are you with some sportswriters who think dela hoya should just retire without rocking other fighters' boats? like a mean bully picking on a puny runt because he can and because he has to prove that he is still the best... hmmm... for sure, that loss against mayweather must have been a tremendous blow to his ego, perhaps thus the need to impose himself whatever way he can? hmmm...

Heh I'm not even sure how I feel about that. Some people I know don't want the fight to push through because of the mismatch. But I figure... goddamn, I trust pacquiao that he's going to give as good as he gets. Isn't weird to realize that you have faith in a person all of a sudden?
