Curious Cat Question

Was reading this column by Patricia Evangelista last Sunday and it reminded me of my own experience.

Why is that? Why is it when a pregnant woman is standing in a train, none of the women stand up to offer their seat to one of their own and it has to be a man that has do it?

Just a question that's gotten me pondering...

(And yes, I missed out last weekend's litcrit session because I was out of the metro again, dagnabbit. Somehow I really have to get a ride on the Serendipity train.)

if there are men in that group, i probably would have thought how senseless they are not to offer a seat to a pregnant woman. but what Patricia witnessed is a shame. perhaps the women of the household is becoming more like the women of the world.

Because women know men will do the offering. :)

such shame! everyone, men or women, should yield their seats to the elderly of both sexes, pregnant women, persons with disability, and persons with infants. we're living in the modern world. screw pretentious chivalry! we should offer seats to those who actually need them, not to women who are as capable of standing in a crowded train as men are.

bingskee: Or the women are becoming more and more like the men? ;-)

abaniko: Halloo! Welcome aboard. Yeah, sometimes I do think that those women were waiting for the men to offer their seat. But still, doesn't that sound hypocritical? :-)

slim whale: 'Allo, welcome to my humble abode. :-) Yes, I do agree with your sentiment though on the matter of chivalry, I do think it's a simple matter of courtesy and consideration. Do unto others, and all of that stuff. ;-)

y'know offering a partially eaten ice cream cone *is* rather demeaning--not to mention unsanitary to the point of being potentially life-threatening, especially these days--when she could just as easily have given her a fresh one, or bought her something else from waffletime or summat...

Huh? Have you been eating those Singaporean spices again by the handful? ;-)
