A Synchronicity-Impaired Post: Change or Stasis

(I'm posting this in advance to get this out of the way so apologies to those who are sticklers for synchronicity. Will also be posting my book review for May as well as the conclusion to my Dumaguete trip to those who're still interested.)

Once again, I've been stuck by the idea that I need a change to get rid of this feeling of unmoving, unfeeling stasis. One of the ways I thought to address this was to cull my bookshelves once more, a pleasurable yet also torturous spring-cleaning at the onset of July.

And what a culling it was: almost one-fifth of books I currently have. And with that, I'm re-opening the book orphanage once more to those interested in giving these poor little 'uns a home.

  • L.E. Modesitt's Recluce series (the first 5 books: The Magic of Recluce, The Towers of Sunset, The Magic Engineer, The Order War, and The Death of Chaos)
  • Margaret Weis/Tracy Hickman: Rose of the Prophet trilogy; Death's Gate complete series (7 books)
  • Katharine Kurtz's The Chronicles of the Deryni trilogy
  • Dennis McKiernan's Iron Tower trilogy
  • Timothy Zahn's Star Wars: Thrawn trilogy (first series after movies)
  • Julian May's Pliocene Exile Saga (4 books) and the 2nd half of the Galactic Milieu series (3 books: Jack the Bodiless, Diamond Mask and Magnificat)
  • Kristine Kathryn Rusch's The Fey series (5 books)
  • Dave Duncan's A Man of His Word (books) and A Handful of Men (complete 4 books)
  • J. Gregory Keyes' The Age of Unreason (4 books)
  • Kate Elliot's Crown of Stars series (incomplete, first 5 books: King's Dragon, Prince of Dogs, The Burning Stone, Child of Flame, and The Gathering Storm)
  • Peter Hamilton's Night's Dawn series complete (the US publication of The Reality Dysfunction, The Neutronium Alchemist, The Naked God)
  • Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash
  • William Gibson's Virtual Light
  • David Brin's Earth
  • Ben Bova's Mars
  • Bruce Sterling's Heavy Weather
  • Bruce Bethke's Head Crash
  • Jamil Nasir's The Higher Space
  • Isaac Asimov/Robert Silverberg: Nightfall
  • Orson Scott Card's Ender's Shadow

More books to be posted once I've separated the chaff from the grain. (For those who're interested, here's my first cull, the very, very extended list that wasn't posted before.)

(On a side note, the excellent Matt Cheney has a post in Strange Horizons about what to do with all those books. Huh, talk about serendipity.)

I'll be getting everything that no one else is getting. Will be donating it to a certain library... (and I can act as courier to the usual suspects)

Geez, given the pics of your room, are you sure you'll have room for these?

I was planning to wait for you to post the complete list, but the chance to have Peter Hamilton's Night's Dawn Trilogy as a set (and with what seems to be matching paperback editions) just screwed up THAT plan. So much for patience!

How do we go about this?

Aaaah! I can't believe some of the stuff you're culling!

I'll happily give all the Julian May and Greg Keyes books a happy (if somewhat crowded) home. The Age of Unreason in particular is something I've been wanting to complete.

So- how do we do this? And is there anything you're looking for? I've got Year's Best F&SF vol 11 or 14 if you're interested, and a copy of Glen Cook's The White Rose. Just lemme know. :)

I can unload Vin's books to his house. Where's a convenient place for you Eldritch00?

Are you in the US?? I bet you are! :(
If you are, unlikely as it is, in the UK I would love the Recluce novels :D

We're from the Philippines. =(

Thanks for the offer, Charles. I live in Santa Mesa, work in Katipunan, but I've met up with the Banzai Cat before in the midpoint (for me anyway) that is Gateway.

Unless it turns out to be more convenient for the both of you if you "handle" this yourself, I guess it would be okay for me to just try to set up a meeting with him first.

But again, thanks for the offer!

Eldritch00: No problem. I'm sure you also want to catch up with Banzai and talk. But just in case, I can drop by your area in Friday evening. It's just that while me and Banzai live in the same area, he usually strays in Makati on weeknights. =)

eldritch: Done and done! :-) I can deliver it to you same way (or in Katipunan or Sta Mesa) or I can pass it on to you Charles if you like. :-)

vin: Not a problem man :-). Alas, there comes a time when I've got to let go. Helps clear the mind also, right?

Er, hope you don't mind if it's cash? Just a hundred bucks per series.

chris: Hey man! Sorry, we're in the Philippines though I wouldn't mind sending it to UK if the shipping wouldn't kill me. :-D (Hmm... trying to think if I know anyone going there at this time.)

charles: Me, stray? :-D
