Curious Cat Question

I've been talking with some friends on an interesting subject and it made me think of asking the people around here on their thoughts on this.

Here's my question: given a situation where you're still in school (high school or college), you got your girlfriend pregnant (or your boyfriend got you pregnant) and you may or may not have gotten married already-- would you still continue schooling or try to find work already to support your family?

(I know there's also the option of continue going to school during the day and working at night-- especially what with all the call centers around-- but I want to limit the choices to the two extremes since it's the principal thought I'm concerned with.)

It makes more sense to go quit school and look for work if it happened in college and not in high school. But that's easier said than done. And I only say this with the benefit of hindsight and distance because it's a daunting ,frightening thing to be faced with, even if you're already gainfully employed. You can always argue for the longterm benefits of education but it's harder to argue with a mouth to feed. So I'd probably go where the money is.

Depends on your financial situation. I mean I've seen/known pregnant women who're richer than my family, so...

Depends on my financial situation too.. is my family rich? Do I really need to find a job to support them?

And assuming both of us are in dire straights, the question I'm asking is "will my education earn me money?" If yes, I'll go ahead studying. If not, work work work (assuming I can find one without a degree).

She can always file an LOA while in college. I had a classmate who did this and returned to studying when the child's old enough to walk. In terms of finances though, it's case to case. More often the grandparents are more than willing to support mother and daughter. At my age I've seen so many variations of this situation (one even had a kid while in high school) and rarely was there a case where the "student-mother" was disowned by her parents.

Yeah, I think I agree with mosot of what youe guys say. I know that education's important but I've seen several instances where people prefer to focus on studying than work. Nothing wrong with that but they later complain about not having enough freedom because their parents (they usually live with their parents). They somehow don't realize that with having kids, their priorites and responsibilities have changed... whether they like it or not.

Sad, really.

depends on the situation really. case-to-case basis. so dont get preggie when you're not ready, or dont get your girl preggie when you're not ready! there are a lot of ways to avoid - being preggie, or getting your girl preggie, i mean. :-D
